Laser is an intense light source used in various fields, including industrial material processing, research, measuring instruments, and medical and cosmetic treatments. Laser technology is also used in light shows at concerts and events. Powerful laser beams can be harmful to the eyes and skin and must be handled with caution.
A permit from the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority is required to use Class 3B or 4 lasers, such as those used in light shows or nightclubs. A permit is also needed for high-powered laser pointers in Class 3R, 3B, or 4.
The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority establishes regulations, provides guidance, and issues permits for laser use in public spaces. We also conduct inspections of activities using high-powered lasers to ensure they are handled safely.
